Jeffrey Miranda - Graphic Artist
Jeffrey Miranda was born in 1981 at the border of Paso and Ciudad Juarez. As a grandchild of a Mexican peasant family that migrated to the Southwest Rio Grande Valleys during the Brac Programs in the 1960s, he grew up as a second-generation Chicano with a passion for art and world history. Miranda studied Medical Illustration at Southwestern Medical School in, Texas, before earning an MFA in Art and Technology from the University of Texas at Dallas. His diverse background and education have shaped his unique artistic perspective.
Miranda’s artwork powerfully showcases the pressing social, political, and cultural issues at the U.S.-Mexico border. As a native and keen observer of the borderland region, she effectively captures the current events that impact its people. Her graphic work addresses a wide range of subjects, including the immigration crisis, racial profiling, and modern politics. Drawing inspiration from influential artists like Goya and the iconic Mexican muralists—David Siqueiros, Diego Rivera, and Jose Clemente Orozco, as well as the late Luis Jimenez—Miranda’s drawings create a compelling graphic tapestry that seamlessly blends significant themes with both everyday andical elements, juxtaposing urgent current events with rich historical context.
